The Piano Tuner

About Richard Lowe

Richard Lowe My piano tuning career began in 1980, when I began a 4 year apprenticeship at Atwater’s Music Shop in Auckland City. As well as tuning, training included every aspect of grand and upright repair and rebuilding, including voicing and regulation. I consider myself very fortunate to have trained in this workshop, as it was the largest in New Zealand at the time and provided the opportunity to gain experience working on a great variety of pianos. This included overhauling and refurbishing old and middle-aged pianos, both high quality European grands and uprights, as well as tuning and servicing new instruments, a perfect preparation for the endless variety of piano work I now encounter as a self-employed tuner/technician. I have been self-employed since 1986.
